happy birthday walt; you aren’t forgotten

Via Shiver.

I got my purple postcard the other day!

I know it’s nothing important, but I love having it :D

I’ll post an obligatory picture of it later

I can’t get credit for Exploring Marketing in Florida :(

Fingers crossed I can get credit for Corporate Communications or else I’m going to be ridiculously behind once I come back.  Totally worth it though.

Got my flight, hotel, and car booked for the night before on the 17th!

Woop woop!

Some of my answers make me seem difficult. I’m not, I swear!

disney247:

Reblog if you’re participating in the Disney College Program for the spring 2012 season! :)

School and Two Months Until Check-In

I have 3 weeks of school left, not really counting next week since I only have one class thanks to Thanksgiving, and then one day of finals on the 12th of December.  This is driving me absolutely bonkers.  I cannot seriously be expected to be focused on any of this with Disney so close!

This is what I have left this semester:

-800 word paper for History of American Music
-100 question final for History of American Music
-4-5 page paper for Communications
-Online test for Intro to Marketing
-In-class test for Intro to Marketing
-Unit test for Communications
-Persuasive speech for Public Speaking
-Online test for Public Speaking
-In-class test for Mass Media
-Discussion for Mass Media

So much to do and not enough motivation to do it all!

In happy news, exactly two months until my January 18th check-in at Vista Way!

To-Do List for DCP

1. Go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal. (Yeah, that’s right non-Disney item is number one)
2. Drink around the world at Epcot
3. Take pictures with characters (I never get to do this when I’m with my family)
4. Make friends with foreign CMs.  I need to learn about the world!

I’ll add more later.  It’s 2am and I’m sleepy.

I should have done this a while ago but here it is now: How my life has dramatically changed in the past two weeks.

First off I’m going to say I’ve never had a job (other than babysitting) so that makes it hard to get a job, yay for Catch-22s.  I have applied to so many places where I live but apparently babysitting isn’t very impressive on a job application.

That being said, I am so grateful to be accepted into the Disney College Program because not only will I be working in a place I love, but once I’m done I will finally have some experience that will get me a job.  (I’m 21 by the way, so it kind of sucks to be this old and a bum)

Now this is how my life has changed in the past two weeks.

I had heard of the program in the past but for some reason never really understood what the heck it was.  I had seen it explained by people on various sites but I thought that you had to be going to school and live near the parks to do it, pretty much I thought it was Disney’s way of accommodating their employees who are also students and working around their school hours.  Then on November 1st I got an e-mail from my school saying that there would be an information session on Disney internships the next day.  These have been the following events:

November 2nd - I went to a presentation at my school by the college reps and I apply online when I get home.

November 3rd - Got an e-mail to do web interview, did web interview.  Passed. Scheduled phone interview for the 7th at 2:15pm.

November 7th - Phone interview at 2:22pm that last for about 17 minutes.  I’m freaking out the entire time and pacing around my living room.  I could not sit still at all and I know my voice was shaking because I could feel my jaw shivering from nervousness.  I also felt like I was yelling at my interviewer half the time because I kept getting so nervous that I would start talking loudly.

Afternoon of November 7th to morning of November 11th - I was a complete wreck.  I had a friend who was rejected about two days after her interview on the same day as mine, so I was convinced I was going to be denied as well.  I kept checking my e-mail but the funny thing is that I’m signed up for several various Disney related notifications such as the movie club and I don’t even know what else right now, so I kept seeing Disney e-mails, but sadly none from the program.  During this time I kept daydreaming about what my life would be like in the program.  I watched YouTube videos from previous CPers, read forums, went through pages of blogs from people in the program and asked all sorts of questions of people on various sites.  I also started thinking of things I would need if I was to go but at the same time I didn’t want to be the loser making shopping lists who would then be rejected so I never wrote anything down.  I just kept daydreaming.  I also tracked the DCP tag here on tumblr and saw so many people who said they had been waiting for weeks with no answer so my nervousness grew and grew over these four days.

November 11th - At 11:26 am I checked my e-mail for about the fifth time that morning and saw that I had a congratulations e-mail that I had received just four minutes earlier.  I opened it and immediately started weeping.  First it was happy crying and from there it went from happy about going to sad about leaving my family to overjoyed to be working for Disney and then back to sad about leaving my guinea pig for 7 months (no, I’m not kidding about that, I love her to pieces)  I called both my parents, told them the good news and began looking up everything on the program’s website.

Later that day I paid my fees and everything and then played the waiting game for the e-mail to select my arrival date.

November 15th - Still no e-mail so I called the office.  The woman on the phone said that if I did not receive an e-mail by the 17th that I should call back.  About 45 minutes later I got the e-mail to pick my dates and chose January 18th to August 3rd.

November 17th - I went and met with two of the student reps from my school and one other girl that was accepted.  We just sat and talked for a couple of hours about what everything was like and what we should expect.  I guess there’s about five other accepted people and one more rep that I’m going to meet at some point when we have another get together.

So that is how my life dramatically changed from just trying to decide what classes to take next semester while still living at my parents’ house an hour away from campus, to planning on moving to Florida in two months, in just about a week and a half.

I will be updating this blog as often as possible between now and the program, and then of course while I am in Florida.  I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences.

PS - I was accepted into custodial.    and I’m from California.

Hi, my name is Kate and I will be moving to Florida in January for the college program. This is my new life.
